I'm in love with Jamie Oliver.

Jamie Oliver won a 2010 TED prize for his big idea that nutrition-related, preventable diseases — e.g. obesity, diabetes, coronary heart disease, etc — are, well, preventable, if only people understood what they’re eating and learned how to cook for themselves. He whipped a school cafeteria into shape in England and now he’s in the US to transform an entire town, focusing primarily on an elementary school. The simple way he breaks it all down in the TED talk is totally inspiring. His heartbreak over the problem to begin with is, well, heartbreaking.

Take a listen and maybe be inspired to (1) take a closer look at what the kids in your life are eating or (2) get involved with some of the many organizations advocating for healthier school meals (like these guys , or these guys, or these guys, or an org in your community). And if you don’t believe what Jamie Oliver has to say about the crud most school cafeterias serve their kids, you can always judge for yourself,  like the brave teacher who’s eating school lunches for an entire year. Yowza.
